University of Basel

The University of Basel, the oldest university in Switzerland, established teaching courses in African Studies more firmly and in collaboration with existing institutions such as the Departments of History and Anthropology, the so-called Basel Mission (Mission 21) and the Swiss Tropical Institute in the 1990s. Its Centre for African Studies (CASB) exists since 2001, offering students and researchers from Africa and elsewhere numerous programmes and activities.
