The Namibian nationalist Clemens Kapuuo (1923-1978) was a prominent politican in Namibia’s long path to independence. In the 1960s and as designated successor to Chief Hosea Kutako he invited Israel Goldblatt and, from Basel, Carl and Daniela Schlettwein-Gsell, to an evening of performances in the so-called Old Location, the African township threatened with forced removals by the apartheid government.
