A Glance at our Africa. Facsimile Reprint of South West News/Suidwes Nuus, 1960. The Only Non-Racial Newspaper in the Territory

by Celine Graber

South West News—’the only non-racial newspaper of the territory’—was a short-lived alternative newspaper published in 1960 by young journalists and activists in several African and European languagesin the Old Location, Windhoek. The very rare newspaper addressed African nationalist resistance politics and featured African community issues. It remained largely forgotten and was re-issued in 1997 as a facsimile reprint by the BAB under the title ‘A Glance at Our Africa’ (edited by Dag Henrichsen, in collaboration with the 1960 editor Zedekia Ngavirue) and as part of a research project with students from the University of Namibia.
