Once upon a time in Windhoek. 16 detachable postcards

Prominent buildings, streets and squares, vehicles and pedestrians: 16 historic photographs from the early 1940s and 1950s provide glimpses of everyday life in the European centre of Namibia’s capital and its process of modernisation.

The pictures were taken by two unknown photographers and by Ruth Dammann and Anneliese Scherz, whose photograph collections comprise part of the extensive holdings of the Photo Archives of the Basler Afrika Bibliographien.
