Genocide, Trauma and Memory. Discussions in Israeli Society and Jewish Communities

April 17 @ 18:15 - 20:00

Genocide, trauma and memory are crucial topics in Namibian and Suthern Africa studies and are increasingly discussed comparatively. To facilitate such perspectives, Erik Petry, professor at the Centre for Jewish Studies of the University of Basel, reflects on Israeli and Jewish experiences and discussions and combines these  with questions relating to similar experiences and traumata of Arab/Palestinian people.  He pays particular attention to the phenomenon of post-traumatic growth  (PTG) and argues for a trauma-informed world. A follow-up discussion aims at being inclusive, with particular linkages to southern Africa histories.

This presentation by Erik Petry is part of the Namibian and Southern African Studies Research Colloquium by the Basler Afrika Bibliographien, the Centre for African Studies, University of Basel, and the University of Namibia.
