Swiss National Sound Archives
In 2007, the BAB Archives embarked on large-scale sound recording digitisation and catalogueing projects, in close collaboration with the Swiss National Sound Archives and Switzerland’s national network for the preservation of Swiss audio-visual cultural heritage, MEMORIAV. For ten years, more than 1000 tapes in all formats and recordings with a wide variety of genres such as interviews, life stories, readings, songs and music performances in southern Africa were made accessible for research. Some of the digital audio collections were deposited in southern African national archives. The expertise of the Swiss National Sound Archives was also used to conduct one of the BAB Sound Archives workshops in Windhoek.
