Dammann, Ernst & Ruth

by Celine Graber

The theologist and linguist Ernst Dammann and his wife Ruth explored African literatures and orality in many Namibian languages in the early 1950s. Recording over 750 narratives and performances, their research archive, including images, transcriptions and manuscripts forms an important Namibian audio-visual collections. The collections have been digitised and are open to research and searchable through the BAB online catalogue.
