The Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI), affiliated to the University of Freiburg i.B. (Germany), houses one of the largest area studies and development collections in Germany, specialised in political, social and cultural transformations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. The BAB recurrently invites ABI researchers and/or their African guests to Basel.
