On the book

Worldwide, Namibia ranks high regarding gender equality. However, many women are intimidated by violence perpetrated by men. The book “Transition Towards Gender Equality” by Sonja Gierse-Arsten is based on a social anthropological field research in the small town of Outjo. Gender is learnt, lived and reproduced in a societal frame. Violence against women, too, is perpetrated by men in a societal context. The author analyses male and female perspectives to reach a holistic understanding and to provide a basis for sustainable changes.

The timely publication by Basler Afrika Bibliographien allows for a Round Table with experts in order to re-think the normalization of violence and highlight current challenges on gender equality.
