Digitisation of Acoustic Archives

by Celine Graber

The BAB maintained a long-term digitisation project of digitalising and catalogueing its entire sound and acoustic archive, in a collaborative project with MEMORIAV and the Swiss National Sound Archives. With it, recorded interviews, stories, languages, music and radio features mainly from Namibia and southern Africa, ranging from the 1950s to the 1990s, have thus become accessible for research. Copies of some of the collections were handed over to the National Archives of Namibia (NAN) and the National Archives of Zambia (NAZ), and included various Sound Archives Workshops in Basel, Windhoek, Lusaka and Cape Town. The BAB online catalogue makes these archives accessible.
