In her presentation Biddy Partridge offers recorded conversations with two young South Africans, as they explore together several photographs of musicians Jimmy Cliff, (taken in Johannesburg in 1979,) and Winston Ngozi Mankunku (again in Johannesburg, in 1984). Their comments are interwoven with music and video, and with Biddy’s narrative about her work in those years (1979 – 1999). And some collaborative reflections on her role as a (white) photographer.

Her presentation takes place in the context of the exhibition Y/Our colonial gaze which reflects critically about (colonial) photo archives, photographic and curatorial practice.
